Do you want to improve your healthspan? Why?
No one knows you better than you know yourself.
Evaluate yourself – where are you at today?
Spiritual growth:
- Do you spend enough time in the word of God, the Bible?
- Do you meditate and Pray?
- Do you have quiet time daily?
Exercise:
- Do you spend more than 30min – 1hr/ day on some form of physical exercise?
- Do you do weight training 2-3x/week?
- Do you do cardio 3-4x/week?
Nutrition:
- Is your height to weight ratio 1:0,5? Is your BMI ideal?
- 3 keys to healthy nutrition:
-
- Frequency: are you eating/ drinking food you need to digest more than 3x/day.
- Quantity: are your portions too large?
- Quality: what are you eating? If your BMI and or weight ratio are off, you are doing 1 or more of the key factors wrong.
Although there are many more factors that play important roles in your health i.e sleep (8hrs), stress levels, and breathing. They are likely to follow once you have the 3 key areas under control.
How do you gain control and improve your healthspan?
It is really simple, but not easy! If it was easy, 80% of the population would not be getting it wrong.
Why do you want to improve your healthspan?
Carrot – enjoy old age in good health, travel, play with your grandchildren, be useful and of service to others: loved ones, family, friends and your community.
Stick – avoid living on pills and procedures, poor quality of life, frail care cost risk – R30K/ month.
We are all going to die one day, but we get to make choices in life which direct the changes brought on by age.
As Christians your why should be simple:
- To love God above all.
- To love yourself so that you can love and be useful, of service to others; and in so doing glorify God, each in our unique way.
So you know there are 3 vital areas to focus on. Don’t be overwhelmed. Start with the simplest focus on your spiritual growth and journey with Jesus. It’s free, a gift, he did the hard part and through grace, not works you have been redeemed and saved regardless of whether you are fit or overweight. He loves you!
Focus on your quiet time and putting his Word to work in your life. Take action on His Word!
He instructs us to nurture and care for our bodies.
Leading a victorious life is His intention for you.
How best can you serve Him by being overweight and lazy; or being fit and healthy?
Exercise: focus on improving your body composition, improving your cardiovascular fitness; and increasing your muscle mass.
2 key focus areas
-
- Cardio: walk, run, bike, swim etc. (fitness)
- Resistance: weights, bands, gym, circuit training, bodyweight, functional i.e push, pull, lift and carry (strength).
Nutrition: eating and drinking are how you fuel your body to provide you with the energy your body needs to survive and thrive.
Nutrition in general, we eat and drink too much, too often, and of poor quality. So to improve we need to eat less, eat and drink less often, and improve the quality of foods and drinks that we consume.
